The Role of the Clerk

The Clerk is the ‘Proper Officer’ and 'Responsible Financial Officer' of the Council who is responsible for the smooth running of the Council’s business. He/she is the first point of contact for the Council and all correspondence should be directed to the Clerk.

Responsibility for implementing the decisions of the Council rests with the Clerk along with giving professional guidance where necessary.

The Clerk prepares, signs, circulates and displays agendas in public places.  The Clerk attends meetings, takes minutes, and holds Council documents.

A member of the Council may be appointed as Clerk without remuneration but nowadays it is more usual to appoint someone who is not a councillor to be paid for the work they undertake.

Forthcoming Meetings

The Parish Council meets every 3 months in February, May, August and November in either Bale Village Hall or the Gunthorpe Village Institute. Meetings start at 7.00pm and are usually held on Thursdays.

Members of the public are welcome to attend - please read the Guide for Members of the Public at Council Meetings and contact the Clerk to discuss any particular access needs.
